Chiffres |
In English only the numbers 0-9 are used, but in French two number groups may be used and with three numbers might be voiced as in normal speech eg 123 is rendered as cent vingt-trois. In the French training manual starting at section 3-A1, numbers relating to the runway (piste), wind (vent), knots (nœuds) are voiced as in speech; temperature (témperature), dewpoint (point de rosée), QNH, QFE and transition level (niveau de transition) are voiced digit by digit; and time is voiced with hours in the middle eg 10 heures 22. However, in practice the voicing may not be consistent so you are going to have to get familiar with French numbering. If you get stuck you can always try something like s'il vous plaît, dire la fréquence chiffre par chiffre ie please say the frequency digit by digit. Substitute piste (runway), vent (wind) as approprpriate for fréquence. |

The phonetic alphabet is essentially the same in English and French though there may be some slight difference is pronunciation. However there is a tendency to truncate Foxtrot to Fox. |
